2017經典賽中華隊總教練郭泰源28日赴苗栗全國高球場參加「王建民高球公益賽」，兩人相見卻對建仔是否參加經典賽隻字未提，不過郭總表示：「我有心理準備，他打的機會不大。」
郭總說，11月到美國就與建仔談過，希望他在經典賽為中華隊效力，但至今始終沒有確定的答案，也不知道他的想法如何？
王建民將於明年元月4日返美，郭總28日得知後訝異說：「怎麼這麼快！」郭總表示，會在建仔返美前找時間談一談，了解最後的決定是什麼？「不過他明年還要拚大聯盟，我有心理準備，打的機會很小，不過還是期待他加入中華隊。」郭總說。
由於王維中、胡智為、陳偉殷、李振昌等旅外投手相繼婉拒參加經典賽，使得中華隊陷入投手荒。對此郭總說，要等決定參加經典賽的最後名單出來，再來想辦法如何補強？
此外，針對日職讀賣巨人隊要求陽岱鋼做完身體評估，再決定是否加入中華隊進軍經典賽，郭總只說：「好啊！」並未發表任何看法。
